Maribel Martínez, MA   |    Director   |   Pronouns: She / Her / Hers / Ella

Maribel Maribel has spent the last 20 years working with various nonprofits in Santa Clara County addressing issues ranging from education reform, community safety measures, social services, health care outreach, to public policy. For nine years, she served as the founding director of the Associated Students Cesar Chavez Community Action Center at San José State University creating interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to infusing social justice and service learnin​g in the cocurricular experiences of students. Prior to that, she worked with organizations such as People Acting in Community Together, Catholic Charities, Somos Mayfair and the City of San José. She holds a BA in Political Science and Sociology, a graduate degree in Applied Anthropology. She holds certificates from the McCourt School of Public Policy from Georgetown University, Stanford University’s Local Governance Summer Institute, The Panetta Institute for Public Policy, and the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Program.

Daniel Moretti, MSc   |   Program Manager I   |   Pronouns: He / Him / His

Daniel Moretti has more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of community engagement, social justice, and non-profit arts in locations including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, London (UK), and Cebu (Philippines). Prior to joining the Office of LGBTQ Affairs, he was the Director of Distribution and Educational Programming at the non-profit Frameline where he oversaw a national education program that provided LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum and films to more than 1,400 middle and high schools. He holds a BA in Visual and Media Arts with a minor in Gender Studies from Emerson College, and an MSc in Gender, Media, and Culture from the London School of Economics. In his spare time he likes to watch the latest in queer film and television, travel, and feed his passion for fashion.

Erin Fitzgerald   |   Graphic Designer II   |   Pronouns: She / Her / Hers

Erin is a graphic designer and illustrator based out of San Jose, CA. Prior to joining the Office of LGBTQ Affairs, she worked as a software developer and consultant for multiple tech companies. Erin is passionate about creativity, community, and the environment. Her illustrations are inspired  by people, objects, and interior design. Erin hopes to one day illustrate a children's book and work in film.

Jordan Betancourt | Management Aide | Pronouns: He/ Him/ His

From a very young age, Jordan has been passionate about social advocacy and helping others, especially being that he grew up in a household with a parent who worked for the County's Social Services Agency. Hearing his mother’s passion for caring about community planted a seed that inspired him to pursue a career in civic engagement. He has collaborated with many nonprofit organizations in South County and has volunteered in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District working with communities experiencing homelessness. He is passionate about raising awareness on the importance of voting and has worked with Santa Clara County’s Registrar of Voters.
While studying at San Jose State University, he worked for the Bill Wilson Center. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. During his free time, he enjoys going to concerts, attending award shows and drinking fruit tea!

Kilani Louis, MA   |    Community Outreach Specialist   |   Pronouns: They / Them / Theirs 

Kilani Louis holds a Masters of Arts in Education (Counseling and Student Personnel) from San Jose State University. Prior to coming to the Office of LGBTQ Affairs as a Community Outreach Specialist, Louis was a founding staff member of the San Mateo County Pride Center where they were responsible for the development and implementation of outreach, training and education, and volunteer programs. At the Office of LGBTQ Affairs, Louis is responsible for leading the LGBTQ+ Listening Tour where they travel to different cities across Santa Clara County to collect valuable feedback from community members. They are passionate about supporting people where they are at.

Sera Fernando | Senior Management Analyst | Pronouns: She / Her / Hers / Siya

Sera Fernando comes from Microsoft as their Outreach Director for Microsoft's GLEAM LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and Experience Manager for Microsoft Stores. As an independent D&I communications consultant and social activist, she also serves as Chief Diversity Officer for Silicon Valley Pride, Board of Governor for the Human Rights Campaign Bay Area, and Councilmember for Women's Equality 2020. Locally, Sera organized the South Bay's first ever Transgender Rally at Silicon Valley Pride 2018, celebrating transgender, nonbinary, gender diverse, and allied folks, highlighting talent from the community. Sera leverages her platform in advocating for transgender intersectionality and social justice, speaking at multiple companies and community based organizations, driving home the importance of workplace equity, allyship, and lifting up the voice of LGBTQ+ storytellers worldwide.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Sera grew up as the daughter of first generation Filipino immigrants in San Jose's Eastside and Evergreen neighborhoods, attending Silver Creek High School and graduating from San Jose State University with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film. When she's not involved in community events and collaborations, you can catch her locally finding the next foodie destination, critiquing a multitude of coffee and milk tea spots, shopping for manga in cosplay, or posing and sharing her plant life on Instagram.

Crystal Haney   |   Community Worker   |   Pronouns: She / Her / Hers / Ella​

Crystal has spent most of her career providing direct services across a broad spectrum of communities. Her first job was working in a retirement community serving meals and cleaning the residents’ apartments, often spending her breaks chatting and playing games with them. She has more than 12 years of experience working in different support roles with young adults and adults with severe to moderate special needs, including over 10 years with the Santa Clara Office of Education as a Paraed​ucator in the CONNECT vocational training program.

An avid volunteer, Crystal spent time as a camp cook and later was the lead cook for Healing Waters, an organization providing wilderness adventures and whitewater rafting to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. She began volunteering at the Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ Community Center in 2010 providing information and referral services, and later as an HIV Testing Counselor and support group facilitator. In mid-2013 she took on the role of Senior HIV Testing Counselor, managing the program on a volunteer basis. When the program was contracted to AACI she was hired on part time as a Program Specialist, later accepting a full-time position as Program Coordinator from 2016 to 2018. Crystal currently acts as co-chair for both the South Bay Transgender Day of Visibility and the San Jose Transgender Day of Remembrance, as well as sitting on the women’s events committee for SV Pride. She enjoys spending time with her partners and their cat Norabelle, hiking and traveling.​

Cielo Oscuro | Coordinator / Public Ally | Pronouns: She / Her / They

Cielo is an activist, organizer, and trainer based out of Los Angeles, CA. Prior to joining the Office of LGBTQ Affairs, she worked as a Trainer facilitating gender inclusivity workshops for companies with Community Partners for two years. Cielo is passionate about the LGBTQ+ community, film photography, and animals.
